SugarSugar Corporation of Uganda Limited (SCOUL) was established in the year 1924. Since its inception, it has been playing a key role in the development of Ugandan economy. Besides being one of the largest employers in the country, it has always kept focus on the product quality, people and its resources.

SCOUL operates with plant capacity of 1,00,000 tons of Sugar per year, more than 30,000 acres of its own estate for cane plantation, 2,000km of roads, 7,000 employees, more than 6000 outgrowers. We also boast of 9.5MW electricity generation capacity & 3,000 tons of food grade Carbon dioxide plant. As a totally integrated Unit while growing its own cane to manufacture Sugar, it has its own distillery established in 2014 that converts Molasses (a bye product) into industrial alcohol. In keeping with its zero waste and inline of environmental policy it harnesses Carbon-dioxide (CO2) through its new CO2 Plant inaugurated by H.E. Mr Yoweri Museveni, the President of Uganda, in 2015.

Welfare Measures

The Company’s employee welfare measures are exemplary. A large, well-planned and constructed township provides its employees with not just housing, but also power, drinking water, a hospital, schools and a dairy. Regular in-house training programs are conducted to upgrade skills and selected employees are sent for higher training to leading institutions in Uganda, as well as overseas.

Awards and Accolades

SCOUL is the first Sugar Company to be certified for ISO 9001 in Uganda and further certified for ISO 14001 for environment Compliance. It has also won the “Best Employer of the Year” and “Best Employee Relations and Welfare” award besides winning the Presidents Export Gold Medal Award for Sugar Exports and Best Sugar Award 2011 – “People’s Choice Award”.
