NEW AND BUZZING WITH ACTIVITY
The long awaited plan for a dealer club crystallised recently
with the formation of PRAVEG HATHI and PRAVEG SIDHEE clubs.
Name: Of Sanskrit origin,
the word PRAVEG means acceleration and it embodies the objectives
of the club: forging better understanding, encouraging the
learning spirit and celebrating will success and growth higherr
, faster and further.
Structure: Our dealers
are our pride and strength; many of them have been with the
Company since inception and have consistently stood by and
supported the Company. Praveg places a high value on
long term association and effort and its 3-tier structure
Silver, Gold and Platinum, classified by the length of association
and sales volume, reflects this classification.
Activities: The activities of the club will
include development programmes and training, excellence rewards
and special activities for the ladies. Its soon to be launched
quaterly magazine will promote success and achievrs , carry
lifestyle advice, business and professional notes, self development
and meditation programs etc.
Flagging off activities this summer, Praveg celebrates
its family quarter with recipes, privilege cards and computer
education programmes. A flying start to what promises to

CCS Extends Reach
The Cement Compaction Service
(CCS) program was extended to Dhasa, Gadhada, Anand & Junagadh. To date we have CCS at
15 centers benefiting our users with superior construction techniques.
CCB
Goes Upcountry
The Concrete Cover Block (CCB) service is
yet another Cement Plus Option promoting Hathi and Sidhee
cement usage in IHB segments where the reach of CCS service
is not possible. By popular demand the service has been extended
to the markets of Talaja & Morbi and is likely to be extended
further to Halwad.

Our Tuesday Consumer Camps continue to provide an excellent
platform for direct interaction with consumers. Prospective
users are explained the advantages of our Hathi or Sidhee
brand and encouraged to visit our counters. The upcountry
response has been very encouraging.

at AGRI-FARE
Early this year we participated in Sidsor's
AGRI-FARE organised by the Umiya Mataji Trust for the benefit
of the farming community. Our new logos were displayed to
advantage at the venue and the team shared our product attributes
with the participants.

Mines Safety Week was celebrated at both our
plants beginning February 17, 2006, under the aegis of the
Directorate General of Mines Safety. This annual activity
focuses attention on performance, provides a platform for
exchange of ideas, sharing of knowledge and exposure to better
safety practices. The event concluded a week later on February
25, 2006 with a prize giving ceremony. Our Mines Department
went on to win several prizes underlining the emphasis given
to safety, conservation and preservation of ecology in our
mining operations.

CELEBRATING
NATIONAL SAFETY DAY
The beginning of the year saw great emphasis
on safety and health at our plants at Ranavav and Sidheegram.
On the 4th of March both plants celebrated the 35th National
Safety Day. Safety day banners festooned strategic locations
and Safety Exhibitions were held to educate employees.

At
Ranavav, in this atmosphere charged with commitment to safety,
a Gayatri Yagna was performed followed by an inaugural function
where messages from Mr. M.N. Mehta and Mr. D.N. Mehta were
read out. The lamp was then lit at the “Suraksha Smruti Sthal”
followed by the hoisting of the 'Safety Flag' and lighting
of the 'Safety Mashal' by Union General Secretary Shri J.D.
Keshwal and the taking of a safety oath. This was followed
by practical fire fighting and first aid demonstrations and
mock drills under the guidance of Dr. M.U. Vasavada, Dy. Manager
(Health Services). The programme ended on a high note with
prizes for safety competitions including safety posters, essays,
slogans and poems. Awards were given for good housekeeping.

At Sidheegram, safety badges were
pinned on by all the employees and the celebration commenced with a safety oath. Mr. M. K. Srivastava, Chairman of
the Safety Committee emphasised the necessity of adopting safety gadgets and practices for safeguarding against any
body damage.
Safety posters, slogans & essays were exhibited at the Main
Gate and prizes were awarded to the winners of the various contests.

Chalk
dust, champions and medals were the order of the day for the
GSCL Employees Sports Meet. Employees and their family members
turned out in large numbers and participated in various events
like the 100 meters race, slow cycling race, walking race,
long Jump, longest foot-ball kick (for employees of age 45
years & above), longest hand-ball throw (for ladies) & bombing
the city (for children of age group 3 to 15 years). Mr. R. D. Patel of Mechanical Department was the Champion of the
evening and bagged the highest number of prizes. Mr. M.S. Gilotra,
Managing Director, gave away the prizes.

In support of the efforts
made by the Government of India to eradicate polio, GSCL took the initiative to promote the
Pulse Polio campaign in the villages around our factory. On 15th January,2006, our officers, Mr.
R.B. Malaviya and Mr. Ramesh Karasi, visited the Polio vaccination booths
of nearby villages: Chhagia, Thareli, Padhruka & Lodhva and distributed
glucose biscuit packets to children who were inoculated with the polio
vaccine. The local villagers greatly appreciated the efforts of GSCL.

CEMENTING RELATIONSHIPS
Dealer
Meets Across Gujarat
With the continued emphasis
on dealer relationships, the team organised meets at Rajkot,
Morbi,Jamnagar, Bhuj and Gondal. The focus was on introducing
the new logo to the channel, receiving dealer suggestions
on growth and understanding their concerns. It was also a
forum to explain VAT implications.

Strong Foundation
An Architects and Engineers Meet was held
at Bhavnagar in February to discuss Quality Concrete Construction.
The guest speaker, Mr. Pandit from CEPT, Ahmedabad explained
superior practices for durable concrete.
The Mix Design brochure developed
by us, indicating the optimum mix of coarse and fine aggregates
(both specific to Bhavnagar town) in local concreting conditions,
was presented and distributed to participants. The architects
and engineers expressed their appreciation of our CCB services
and put forward their views and suggestions to improve this
service. We also availed of the opportunity to reinforce our
commitment to Bhavnagar town

The Mason Training programe
continues. This quarter the school conducted training at Manavadar & Amreli. As an extension to the training, a
meet was held in Ranavav at Sustainable Environment Ecological Development Society (SEEDS) office involving all certified masons in that area.

Festivex
2006
The Mehta Group actively participated in Festivex-2006. This
annual event held at Porbandar, provides the business community
an opportunity to interact with the consumer Inaugurated by
Bhagwatacharya Shri Rameshbhai Oza and covered extensively
by the media, the event drew a huge turnout with around 85
participants and over a hundred thousand visitors. High brand
visibility at the entry gate and at strategic locations and
exciting games and contests drew large numbers of visitors
to our stall. A working model of the kiln and special gifts
for couples who had completed 50 years of marriage created
a buzz at the venue.

| The sweet taste of victory |
The flannels and the whites were pulled out this year as they are every year at G.S.C.L. The
occasion was the Inter-Departmental Cricket tournament, an annual event that is greatly looked
forward to. Six departmentwise teams were formed, and the matches were played on Round Robin basis. Employees from all the
departments participated in the tournament with great zeal and enthusiasm.
The grand finale was played on Sunday, 15th January, 2006
and in a nailbiting finish the Mechanical & Drawing Office
team won by 58 runs, making this their 11th consecutive win.
The runners-up were the I.T., Mines, Crusher, Civil, Electrical
& Stores team. The Chief Guest, Mr. M.K. Srivastava, Sr. Vice
President (Works) gave away the trophies.

began with the unfurling of the

Here
is a surprising bit of information for everyone who spends
the day rushing about and then moans that there isn't enough
time in a 24-hour day Effective time management is not about
doing more things in less time but about doing the right things
better. The secret lies not in working more hours but in using
the existing time more efficiently and effectively. To perfect
this fine art of Time Management a one-day workshop was organised
for executives of SCL and GSCL. The workshop was conducted
by Dr. Pradeep B. Kakkad. There was a surprise prize for paying
attention during the workshop, which was bagged by Mr. Sumeet
Malhotra who not only learnt to manage time better but won
himself and his family a gourmet meal at a restaurant.
Prize Winning Blooms
The Horticulture Department of our Company
came up smelling of roses at the 38th Vegetables, Fruit &
Flowers exhibition cum-competition organised by the Porbandar
Horticultural Society and Department of Horticulture, Government
of Gujarat. The air was thick with the sweet smell of exotic
blooms on the 11th and 12th of February. Our Horticulture
Department had a bouquet of victories with 15 prizes in 20
categories. We won 1st Place: Decorative
plants, fruits, plants in pots, box and baskets, medicinal
plants, fruits, cut flowers, bonsai,
2nd Place: Maximum plantation in a year, 3rd

Holi
ke Rang Ranavav ke Sang
Early on the 15th of March
the Vice President (Works) Mr. B.C. Pandey's home at SCL colony
was filled with children and adults bathed in shades of fuschia,
vermillion, saffron and indigo. The occasion was the celebration
of the spring festival of colours, Holi. Members of the Officer's
Club gathered around and a riot of colours followed by a delicious
lunch marked the festival.

Republic Day this year saw the SCL Parivar pledging themselves
to development through knowledge and greater value systems
so that the family, society, company and nation can develop
as a whole. Mr. B.L. Kalwar, Corp. Director (Operations &
Projects) presided as Chief Guest. There was a grand march
past led by Mr. S. D Gadkari to mark the solemn occasion.
The students of the Saurashtra Cement Vidya Vihar added to
the splendour with their colourful dances. This wonderful
day ended with a vote of thanks from Mr. C.H. Dittanwala,
General Manager (Elect. & Instrumentation).

Safety and First Aid have always been accorded the highest
priority at our plant at Ranavav As an extension of this,
a 3-day training programme was carried out followed by an
examination conducted under the aegis of Saint John's Ambulance
Association, Bhavnagar Branch. A total of 40 attendants were
trained by Dr. Prakash Bhatt and his team. Mr. B.C Pandey,
V.P. (Works), Mr. B.S. Baghel, AVP (Ops), and Mr. G.M. Trivedi-
G.M. (P&HR) congratulated Dr. Milan Vasavada, Dy. Manager
(Health Services) on the success of this programme.
